Another dodgy badly run travel company, Wakefield travel firm Hellenic Voyages has become one of three UK travel firms to fold within a week. They also traded as Hellenic Sunescapes and Quickescapes..

It never fails to amaze me how these travel firms, who know they’re are going bust manage to con money out of customers all week, and then miraculously fail on Friday, they should be charged with a criminal offence…

However, customers who have booked flights or package holidays will not lose their money because Hellenic traded under the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL) scheme that guarantees consumers’ cash.

Hellenic also traded as Sunescapes and Quickescapes and offered flights, accommodation and packages to Greece and Cyprus. It ceased trading on Friday after failing to renew its ATOL at the end of March.

The Civil Aviation Authority said Hellenic, Sunescapes and Quickescapes customers with bookings should not try to travel as all flights have been cancelled. Instead, they should try and obtain refunds from the CAA through the website http://www.atol.org.uk.

Those currently on holiday can complete their trip and fly home as planned, with the CAA making the necessary arrangements with carriers.

The CAA was unable to say how many people were affected, but a spokesman said: “Hellenic was quite a small company.”

Hellenic’s failure follows the collapse and subsequent buy-out of tour operator Barwell Travel of Chessington and failure of Essex-based agency Mayflower Travel last week.
